In this assignment you will demonstrate an awareness of the connection that Aboriginal people have to the land, sea, sky and waterways and their unique ways, knowing the indicators observed in the environment to predict changes in the seasons.
You will use secondary resources to learn that Aboriginal people’s seasons vary based on observation of their environment. You will learn the Aboriginal names for the seasons which they are researching. Create a Venn diagram (in your book) to make comparisons with the concept of four European seasons - summer, autumn, winter, spring - and the Aboriginal seasonal calendar. Finally, write an information report suitable for a news paper on your findings. Students consider what and how our life might be different if we had used our Aboriginal knowledge of seasons. Students write an article for The Advertiser on how South Australia might have developed differently if European settlers had used local Aboriginal knowledge when establishing their farming practices.
